Pagers are not very popular any more. At one time they were very popular and expensive. The advantage to a pager is if you want to be reachable but not necessarily talk you can always be in contact.

Use a Tracfone as a Pager.

You can buy a Tracfone for $10 to $20. With Caller ID you can always see who is calling or who has called. Pay $20 and put 60 minutes and 90 days on your phone ($ 6.66 per month). Put a message on the phone saying “You have reached the Pager of James Madison, I will call you back shortly.” If you buy the $20 Tracfone cards and use your Tracfone for calling you will pay a lot to talk. As a Pager they work just fine.

Leave an Outgoing Message

If you want to leave a message about your where you are or where you are going to be you can use a Tracfone as a messenger. You can change the message from a land line or another cell phone without using your minutes. Just call in use your PIN number which you will get when you set up your voice mail and set up your message. You can also check your messages without using your phone minutes.

Is your Child Grounded?

If you take their cell phone away but you still want to be able to reach them give them a Tracfone with only 60 minutes on it and make them use it as a pager. They have to call you back as soon as they get the call from another phone. They are not allowed to call or text or answer any other calls. You can easily check the call log on the phone.

So I know what you are thinking. You cannot get a cell phone for less than $40 a month plus taxes and you have to sign a one year or two year contract. That is no longer true. You can get a phone for as little as 6.66 per month–here is an article on the Best Emergency Phone. Which could also be called the best $6.66 per month cell phone.

Net10 and Tracfone Samsung R451c Qwerty Keyboard

What makes the Best $16.66 per month Phone?

{In my Opinion|My evaluation} the most important point would be who has

The most minutes to use for $16.66 per month.

No Contract to sign.

No Credit Check Required.

Usable every day

Available

With that in mind I have evaluated T-Mobile Prepaid, Tracfone, Net10, Go phone and Verizon Prepaid. All of these companies have national or nearly national plans.

The Options.

T-Mobile, Go Phone, Verizon, all have pretty much the same options. If you purchase a $100 card you can have access for a year. They have $1 per day plans that give unlimited calling to their own network and after you pay your $1 you get 10 cent minutes. They also have 25 cents per minute plans with no daily charge. T-Mobile has a straight 10 cents a minute plan as long as you put in $100 first. There are better options

$16.66 per Month is $200 per Year

That {is|happens to be} the cost of one of the best values in Prepaid phone usage. The $200 per year phone plan from Tracfone.com gives you 3,000 minutes and One year of service for $16.66 per month if you pay {for a year|$200} {to start the plan|in advance}.

6.6 cents per minute. No limits on your calling, no long distance charges, no roaming charges and yet your phone will roam onto several cell networks.

If you use all 3,000 minutes before your year is up you can purchase more for the same price (you will have to spend $200 to get the 6.6 cent rate.) If you do not use all of your minutes they Roll Over as long as you keep your service active.

You are in control of your minutes. You buy them and use them as fast or as slow as you want. You will always know how many minutes you have left because it shows right on the screen of your phone.

If you average 250 minutes a month your minutes will last for 12 months. You can use 400 on month and 100 the next.

As recently as 2005 you would pay at least 20 cents a minute for prepaid minutes in the US.

Tracfone has the best $16.66 per month Plan

You can only purchase the $200 one year 3,000 Tracfone plan online at Tracfone.com. To get 3,000 minutes you have to have DMFL on your phone before your add the $200 card.

Get $3 off on any Tracfone phone of $19.99 or more with coupon code 23444

Runner up in the $16.66 per Month Phone Contest

In my opinion runner up goes to Net10.com. You can purchase phone cards for $30 anytime from Net10 that give you ten cent minutes. No $1 per day monthly fee just add a $30 phone card and you get 10 cent minutes.

Net10 up will give you 166 minute per month compared to Tracfone’s 250 minutes per month for $16.66.

You will only have to spend $30 for two months with Net10 and you will have to invest $200 to get the Tracfone deal. If you were getting a Contract phone the $200 would be about 3 or 4 months service charge.

Summary

The Best $$16.66 250 minutes per month deal is only available at the Tracfone Website. Buy the $200 1500 minute refill with DMFL already installed on your phone and get 3000 minutes.

If I transfer my Minutes to a new phone do I have to transfer my phone number too?

No you can easily transfer you minutes and service time to a new phone. This new phone can be active or inactive. The phone you are transferring from must have both minutes and service time left.

What is the Tracfone Connection to Net10?

Tracfone and Net10 are sister companies. They are both owned and managed by America Movil.

Here is some information from Wikipedia about America Movil. “América Móvil is a holding company forming the fourth largest mobile network operator in terms of equity subscribers, the largest corporation in Latin America, and a Fortune 500 company. A venture of Carlos Slim Helú, América Móvil provides services to over 201 million wireless subscribers in the Americas, primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Tracfone Prepaid Annual Mobile Plans

Tracfone has two distinctive annual plans.

$100 Tracfone Annual Plan

They sell a $100 one year card that you get 400 units (800 with DMFL). This unit card usually has bonus codes readily available that will frequently allow you to get an extra 200 to 400 units. Check for the newest Tracfone Coupon Codes. If you just receive Eight hundred Tracfone units when addiing unit card you will pay 12.5 cent units and under $9 per month for service. monspin-030110.

$200 Tracfone Yearly Plan

Additionally available from Tracfone.com is a $200 yearly plan. This unit card gives you 1500 units (3000 with DMFL) and a year of service. With Double minutes for life installed these units will only cost 6.6 cents each plus your per month price is below $17 monthly.

When using either of these plans if you run out of Tracfone units before the year is up you can purchase extra minutes by just purchasing another cellular phone unit card. Get $3 off on any Tracfone mobile or accessory $19.99 or more with coupon code 23444

The New Motorola Droid from Verizon

The $200 Tracfone Annual Plan

The $200 annual Tracfone plan is the best deal in pre pay phones. No one else offers the length of time you get to use the phone with the very low minute price of 6.6 cents a minute if you are using Double minutes for life.

What is Double Minutes for Life

Tracfone DMFL is Double Minutes for life of your phone. With DMFL you will receive twice the units which are printed on the Tracfone Unit Card. This will last as long as you use this cell phone. If you let your service to lapse the Double minutes for life will continue to work when you reactivate your mobile phone. I do not suggest ever adding units on a Tracfone which does not have Double minutes installed on the phone. If you install two double minute cards you will not get quadruple minutes.

Buy the Tracfone.com $200 Yearly plan and get one year of service and 3,000 minutes with DMFL. Please be sure you have DMFL installed Before adding the $200 card.

Verizon Prepaid Per Day Fees

The Per Day fees are only charged on the days the phone is used.

The Per Day fees are from Midnight to Midnight local time. If you haven’t used your Verizon Prepaid phone for a full 24 hours and then you make a phone call to another Verizon phone at 11:55 pm and the call lasts until 12:05 (ten minutes later) you will be charged $1 for each day or $2.

If you only make one call in a day it will cost you $1 plus airtime. If you mainly make calls to non Verizon Wireless phones the dollars go away quickly.

Verizon has over 80 million customers therefore the Basic plan with Unlimited Verizon to Verizon calling for 99 Cents a day gives you a lot of phones you can contact.

Initial Charges for Verizon Prepaid.

You will pay up to a $25 fee when you initialize your Prepaid Verizon cell phone. I activated mine at a Verizon store and purchased a $30 card all at once. The person that helped me did not charge me the fee. I did spend $79.95 on the cellphone.

Verizon Prepaid Customer Service

Customer Service can be reached 24/7 by email, a toll free number and from your Verizon prepaid cell phone without incurring airtime charges. I have used the Verizon Customer service several times with great results. I have used Tracfone and Net10 and Straight Talk customer serviceand it is not nearly as good as Verizon Wireless Customer Care.
I have gone to a Verizon store for assistance as well as called 611 from my Prepaid phone. The Customer Support people have been excellent. The phone support person was located in Arizona not Chile.

Free Calls to Customer Support.

With Tracfone, Net10 and Straight Talk your calls to customer support it will cost you minutes. Call Verizon at 611 and it is free.

Converting from Prepaid to Contract

Your Verizon Wireless Pay as you go phone can be converted to a Contract phone if you have used it for six months or more as a prepaid phone. You will not have to sign a contract to add this to a contract. I was able to add one to a Verizon contract for $10 a month on a month by month basis. This worked well for me, a Long Term Contract rate without a long term contract.

Verizon Prepaid Phone Service

It will cost you a minimum of $10 a month or $100 per year to maintain Verizon Prepaid service.

Verizon Service Expiration

If your balance goes to Zero or if your Service time runs out your account will expire.

Using your Prepaid Phone as a Pager

Caller ID can act like a pager when your account balance is low on Money. Check the caller Id and call back on a landline.

Your Prepaid Service Time will not Stack!

When you add money to your Verizon Pay as you go account you may extend the expiration date . a $15 to $29.99 payment will extend your service to 30 days. $30 to 74.99 will extend to 90 days. A $100 payment or more will extend your service to 365 days.

How Verizon Service Time Operates

When you have 20 days left on your service and you add $15 you will end up with 30 days of service after the addition. If you have 40 days of service left and you add a$15 payment you will still only have 40 days of service left. Verizon does not add your remaining service to what you purchase, you receive the larger of either your remaining balance or the newly added service time.

Existing Balance Carry Forward

If you replenish before your service time expires then your balance will carry forward.

No Credit Checks with Verizon Prepaid.

That pretty much says it all. You will not have an Termination fee if you allow your Verizon Service to terminate. You will lose any money remaining on your account, your phone number, and there will usually be a $25 reactivation fee.

No contract to sign with Verizon Prepaid.

How Can You Pay for Verizon Prepaid Service?

Verizon allows you to pay with credit card or debit card and auto pay,

With credit card or debit card on their website

Pay by phone or in person at Verizon Wireless stores or kiosks.

Pay in Person at Verizon Stores.

Verizon Prepaid Text and Picture Messaging

Basic Plan text messages are 20 cents each.

Core Plan, text messages are 10 cents each.

Plus Plan, text messages are 5 cents each.

Unlimited texting to any network for 20 dollars per month.

Verizon Prepaid Data

You can get mobile web access 99 cents per day (but only on days it is used). If your phone

Verizon Wireless Inpulse Plans

Verizon now calls their Prepaid Wireless Plans Prepaid. Previously they were called Inpulse.

Verizon Wireless Prepay Downloads

Prices vary according to program and phone. Downloads are subject to a 99 cent download fee, which is assessed for the first download in any 24-hour period.

Verizon Wireless Calling Standard Features

Call waiting, caller ID, 3 way calling and call forwarding are included.

There is no extra charge for Verizon Nationwide Long Distance.

Most Tracfones charge .3 units per text to receive and to send. If you are buying $20 phone cards and you do not have DMFL you will be paying as much as 11 cents per text. If you are buying minutes with the $200 per year plan you will pay 2.2 cents per text to receive and send.

Famous Quotes

Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. Ronald Reagan

What is Tracfone DMFL?

Tracfone DMFL stands for Double Minutes for Life or Unlimited Double Minutes. If you have this on your phone any time you add minutes you will get twice as many minutes as stated on the card. It normally is not transferable to another phone. When they first came out these cards were $50. Now a lot of phones come with DMFL already installed. They are currently available for $20 at Tracfone.com. I do not recommend adding minutes to a phone that does not have DMFL.

Tracfone Prepaid Annual Mobile Plans

Tracfone has two yearly plans to select from.

$100 Tracfone Annual Plan

They market a $100 annual unit card that you receive Four hundred minutes (800 using DMFL). This unit card frequently has bonus codes available which will in most cases allow you to get an additional 200 to 400 minutes. Check for the most recent Tracfone Bonus Codes. If you only receive 800 units using this minute card gives you 12.5 cent minutes and less than $9 per month service. monspin-030110.

$200 Tracfone Yearly Plan

Additionally offered by Tracfone.com is a $200 per year plan. This card offers you 1500 minutes 3,000 minutes using the Minute Doubler installed and also a year of service. With Double minutes for life installed these units are 6.6 cents each and your per month cost is under $17 monthly.

When using either of these plans if you run out of Tracfone units before the year is up you’ll be able to buy additional units by just purchasing another phone unit card. Get $3 off on any Tracfone mobile phone or accessory $19.99 or higher with promotional code 23444

Motorola Razr and Tracfone Samsung R451c Qwerty Phone

The $200 Tracfone Annual Plan

The $200 yearly Tracfone plan is the best deal in pre-paid phones. No other Prepaid phone company provides twelve months of service to use the phone with the low per minute charge of 6.6 cents a minute with DMFL.

What is Unlimited DMFL

Tracfone Wireless DMFL is Double Minutes for life of your phone. With DMFL you will receive twice the units that are stated on the Tracfone Unit Card. This will work for as long as you use your cellphone. In the event you permit your service to lapse the Double minutes for life will continue to work when you reactivate your cell phone. I do not recommend ever adding units on a Tracfone that does not have Double minutes installed on the phone. Adding two DMFL cards will not get quadruple minutes.

If you are spending $30 a month or more on your cell phone the best deal available is the Straight Talk “All You Need” plan that gives you 1,000 minutes and 1,000 texts, 30 meg of data and unlimited 411 calls.

If you are using more than 1,000 minutes a month the $45 Unlimited plan from Straight Talk is impossible to beat with a National Carrier (Verizon) providing the network.

Minutes and Activation time Roll-over with Tracfone.

Tracfone.com has a DMFL (double minutes for life) option you can purchase for your phone usually $25 or $50. This doubles your minutes on every card you put in your phone for the life of the phone. Many Tracfone Phones come with DMFL already installed on the phone. Never add minutes to a Non-DMFL Tracfone phone. The minutes are way too expensive.

Straight Talk Wireless vs Tracfone Prepaid Advantages
$30 a month plan gives you 1,000 minutes, 1,000 text messages, 30 megabite of data er month. No charge for 411 calls. 3.3 cents a minute not counting the text and data. Minutes do not roll over on this pay as you go system.

$45 Unlimited plan with Unlimited text and Unlimited data. No charge for 411 calls. There is no other Nationwide calling plan that comes close to matching this plan.

Nicer phones are available from Straight Talk than Tracfone. Although many of the same phones are available from both companies. Always figure the cost of adding in DMFL to your Tracfone when you are comparing prices.

All Straight Talk phones use the Verizon Network for making calls.

Summary The Plan I would Buy Depends on My Usage

I would choose the Tracfone.com plan. I do not use a lot of minutes and my favorite plan is the $200 3,000 minute plan from Tracfone. My usage is all over the map, some months I don’t use more than a hundred minutes and some months I will use four or five hundred. I am almost always around a land line to talk on so my cell phone is more for messages. This changes my Straight Talk Wireless vs Tracfone Prepaid strategies.

If I used all of my 3,000 minutes in seven months it would be the same as me buying the $30 Straight Talk cards every month. Seven months at $30 equals $210. If I am able to stretch the 3,000 minute Tracfone plan for more than seven months I am getting cheaper cell phone service.

The magic number is 428 minutes a month. 3,000 minutes/ 7 months= 428 minutes per month. If you average over that you are better off spending the $30 a month for the Straight Talk Plan.

Compare Straight Talk and Tracfone Summary Two

If you are using just a few minutes a month Tracfone is great, you can keep your service active for less than $7 a month. If you use 400 minutes a month you can purchase the $200 1,500 minute card and get 3,000 minutes with DMFL. This will cost you less than $30 a month. If you use over 400 (428) minutes a month purchase the $30 a month 1,000 Straight Talk Plan or $45 a month unlimited plan.

Happy Calling

So if you want the cheapest cell phone monthly and you use under 428 minutes a month Tracfone has you covered for less than $30 a month.

Straight Talk is a new partnership between Verizon, Tracfone and Walmart. The phones range from a basic phone for $60 with a $30 phone card to a pretty nice Smart phone that runs just over $300. I recently bought the Samsung R451c for $130 which included a $30 “All You Need” phone card.

This setup was good for one month of service, 1000 minutes, 1000 texts, and 30 mb of web browsing. That is quite a bit of browsing on the little screen of this phone.

The new Straight Talk program has two prepay options.

Unlimited Prepaid Straight Talk Wireless for $45 a month

* unlimited minutes
* unlimited text and picture messages
* unlimited data
* unlimited 411 calls

“All You Need” Prepaid for $30 a month which includes

* 1000 minutes
* 1000 texts
* 30 mb of data for
* unlimited 411 calls

Summary Straight Talk Review

This is a well thought out venture which includes the largest retailer in the world, the largest cell phone company in the New World—(Tracfone’s parent company) and Verizon who has the largest collection of Cell phone towers in the United States.

This program hits a new low price for Unlimited Nationwide coverage $45 per month plus sales tax. It also hits a new low for prepaid minutes at 3 cents a minute. The minutes do not roll over. Still the cheapest prepaid minute you could find before this program was 6.66 with a $200 purchase from Tracfone.
